4.26.14 Studio

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.

Hopefully you all were able to complete your surface models over the break.

Tomorrow will purely be a studio working day to cut your surface models out of rigid material (museum board) and to reconstruct (and completion of site drawings for those taking the SATs next weekend)
Everyone is to bring your completed surface models, museum board, Elmer's glue, and all your model making materials.

For those of you who are taking the SATs next Saturday (Olivia, Matt, and Alicia), please bring your drawing materials so you can complete the site drawing in class. (For 30 minutes I would like to get you into the process of building your surface model so you can complete this at home.) Samuel and Morrissa can site and draw their architecture next weekend.

SITE

Make sure to bring your drawing supplies this Saturday, including your architectural scale and your roll of vellum. You will draw the site and will site your structure in there. We will be learning about scaling your models and site measurements to 1/4"=1'-0". Bring your model in order to scale and measure and your previous drawings of the model in which to site within your site drawing.

If you need to get any missing overall dimensions, Google Earth is a great resource with their measuring tool.

SITE VISIT ON

Studio,

We are ON for our site visit tomorrow. Weather will be 48F @9am and rising to 53F by 1pm... bring gloves, a coat and a hat since we will be outside the whole time.

We will meet as a class in the studio and then head to your architectural site, The High Line. Be here at class on time at 9:30am so we can walk over as a class at 9:45am to The High Line, where we will enter at the Gansevoor Street stair entry. We will walk back as a class to the front of the Pratt Manhattan campus at 12:35 so your parents can pick you up by 12:50pm. If you are late for whatever reason, shoot me an email @ michelegorman@hotmail.com with your phone number so I can tell you where to meet us on the site.

Wear:
walking shoes
coat
gloves
hat

Bring:
sketchbooks
pencil
clipboard (or something rigid to draw on if you have it) with some white paper or even better, graph paper
camera
measuring tape. If you can not borrow a measuring tape from one of your parents, then just a long ruler.

Look forward to getting out in the City with you all!

Best,
Michele
